Custom CMS to WordPress

Well, this is an actual problem. About 60% of web is based on custom PHP, ASP, Perl custom scripts and content management systems. However I believe most of those websites are ready to migrate to some popular and modern CMS’s like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal …

All my friends are website administrators and they have already do their research about this issue.  There are three ways to do this migration:

  1. If you’re a web developer and can create “Custom CMS to WordPress” converter script
  2. Rent some freelancer and ask him to create this script
  3. Use professional services like gConverter, Profprojects …

Migration Types

As you may already know, each CMS consists of Database, Extensions and Template. First you should decide what kind of migration do you need.

  1. Only database
  2. Only extensions
  3. Only template
  4. Complete ( database, extensions, template )

I don’t know if there are any professional freelancer who can do such a hard work, but I do know the gConverter and Profprojects are doing such a migration every day and people recommend them.

Chat with gConverter

I contacted to gConverter Live Support and asked these questions:

I: Do you support all type of database conversion ( MySQL, MS SQL Server, Access,  PostgreSQL, FoxPro, Oracle, Lotus, Paradox, XLS, XML…)?

gConverter: Yes, we can convert all available database types and PL CMS’s to WordPress, Joomla, Drupal… (about 120 new CMS’s)

I: How about my site’s functions, will I get e.g. WordPress site with the same features?

gConverter: We need to review your site functions to be able answer on your question, however e.g. WordPress has thousands of different extensions most of your site functions will be retained using plugins, others will be redeveloped by our specialists, so you’ll get a WordPress site with all necessary functions and features.

I: Great! What about the site template, what options you could offer?

gConverter: We can do either:

  • Convert your current CMS template to WordPress theme ( identical look and feel )
  • Install a new WordPress theme, then configure and integrate with migrated content.

I: Will you be able to keep my SEO?

gConverter: Sure, we’ll care about your page URLs and Meta Data. If your custom CMS doesn’t have SE Friendly URLs like example.com/postname/we’ll handle permanent (301) redirection from old URLs to new WordPress URLs. If those are SE Friendly we’ll keep identical the same URLs. Also we’ll care about your page Meta Data ( Title, Description, Keywords ). Those data will be migrated to some SEO Plugin such as “All in One SEO Pack”.

I: Ok, how it works? Will I be able to check the result before payment? How long does it takes?

gConverter: Very easy, please read this FAQ topic, yes you’ll. We do not request any payment from you until your site has been successfully converted. Therefore, if you don’t like the results and you provide us with valid reasons, then you don’t pay. The database conversion takes about 24-36 hours, the template conversion about 2-3 days.

Yes, that’s great! I’ll go for it. For more information about this service I read these pages:
